MBKF Rescheduled to 2021

#MBKF Family, so much has happened recently and we want to take a moment to address it.

First, we have all been affected by the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic in the last few months. After continuous monitoring of COVID-19 and the current social distancing restrictions in place, the MBKF Team has no choice but to reschedule MBKF2020 to August 26-30, 2021. While we were looking forward to celebrating African music, dance and culture together, the health and safety of staff, attendees, and our entire community are our top priorities.

To those who have purchased a pass for MBKF2020, your pass will automatically be transferred to MBKF2021. You will receive an email confirmation with your MBKF2021 pass details. If you have made reservations at the Eden Roc, the hotel will cancel your reservation. Please contact the hotel directly for any questions regarding your reservation.

Secondly, as an organization, MBKF stands in solidarity with the Black community against racism, oppression, and the violation of human rights. In the wake of the brutal killings of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, and Breonna Taylor, the very fabric of this country seems to be fraying—revealing ongoing rifts, injustice, and anger, decades and centuries in the making.

It is not enough to acknowledge the inequities that exist, but take individual and collective action to create the real change we want to see. From hosting live conversations regarding racism on social media to our annual festival where we bridge the gap between Africa and the African diaspora by sharing the music, dance and culture of various African countries and encouraging cross-cultural understanding, MBKF will continue to push our community and world for change…and we encourage you to do the same.

Thank you all for your patience during this time as we worked on these changes and we hope you are continue to take time to reflect and/or practice self-care as we push the fight for racial equity across our community, the country and world.

Best,

The MBKF Team
